Job Description

The drilling specialist at Velox is a highly skilled and experienced professional responsible for operating and overseeing the operation of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment. This role involves advanced drilling techniques, locating, problem solving, and leadership in ensuring the accurate and efficient installation of underground telecommunication infrastructure. Collaborates closely with both the construction manager and the field supervisors.

Responsibilities:

Drilling Operations:

  • operate and control advanced HDD drilling equipment with precision and accuracy
  • execute complex drilling projects, including challenging terrains and varying soil conditions

Project Planning and Coordination:

  • collaborate with project managers and engineers to plan drilling paths based on project requirements and specifications
  • conduct pre- drilling surveys and assessments to identify potential obstacles and optimize drilling routes

Drilling Techniques

  • utilize advanced drilling techniques, including steering technologies, to ensure the desired bore path and minimize any deviations
  • stay updated on industry advancements and integrate cutting-edge drilling technologies into operations

Safety Leadership:

  • enforce and promote a strong safety culture during all drilling activities
  • conduct regular safety meetings, training sessions, and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Quality Assurance:

  • implement and adhere to rigorous quality control measures to ensure drilling activities meet or exceed industry standards
  • conduct thorough inspections to verify the accuracy and precision of drilling operations

Equipment Maintenance:

  • oversee and perform routine maintenance on HDD equipment to ensure optimal functionality
  • troubleshoot and address technical issues promptly, collaborating with maintenance personnel for more extensive repair

Team Leadership and Training:

  • provide leadership and guidance to drill crew members, sharing expertise and best practices
  • conduct training sessions on advanced drilling techniques and safety protocols

Communication and Collaboration:

  • maintain effective communication with project managers, field supervisors, and other team members
  • collaborate with engineering teams to address specific project requirements and challenges

Problem Resolution:

  • identify and address technical issues that may arise during drilling operations
  • work with project teams to implement corrective actions and minimize disruptions

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment useage, and any incidents
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on drilling progress, equipment performance, and deviations from project plans.

Skills/ Requirements

  • extensive experience as an HDD drill operator in complex telecom construction projects
  • proficient in operating and troubleshooting advanced HDD drilling equipment
  • in-depth knowledge of steering technologies and advanced drilling methodologies
  • strong understanding of safety regulations and protocols in construction environments
