Description The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin ("LBJ School") invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor with a focus on the intersection of economics and national security, statecraft, and foreign policy. The position is open with respect to disciplinary affiliation, including political science, economics, and international relations, and will begin August 2026 for the 2026-27 academic year.
One of the nation's top ten programs in public affairs, the LBJ School is seeking to strengthen its faculty in national security, including at the intersection of national security and economic policy and statecraft. The LBJ School comprises more than 45 faculty members and approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate students. The faculty role supports teaching in the Master of National Security, Master of Global Policy Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Public Affairs, and the appointee can expect to teach courses focused on the economic policies that advance foreign policy development, national security and economic statecraft.
Faculty research may focus on the policy design, implementation and assessment of financial sanctions, trade agreements, tariffs, export controls, intellectual property protections, currency manipulation, commercial diplomacy, foreign investment or industrial policy development, with an emphasis on the use of such tools for national security and statecraft. The appointee should conduct and publish scholarly research in top outlets in their field, and be willing to seek grant opportunities in support of their research and/or teaching activities. The appointee's research should have direct relevance to public policy, and they will also participate in faculty governance in the LBJ School.
Qualifications A Ph.D. in Political Science, Economics or a related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered if the doctoral degree will be complete by the time of employment. Experience in college teaching and evidence of scholarship or scholarly potential is preferred.
